Backyard Escapade

Posted by Eunice on 31 May 2009 | C25MMENT!

Hey everyone!

So I recently took a break from all the stress in my school + decided to just take a walk around the house. I landed in my backyard; a place that I haven't been to in almost ... a year. A lot of things have prevented me from venturing to this particular part of the house: Schoolwork, my heavy addiction to the computer, the waist-high snow that covers it during winter.
But now that it's summer, I actually had the chance to go outside and walk around a bit. I realized I had so many memories just in my backyard, and it felt really neat to remember all these things years and years after they have happened. I must have spent most of my childhood in the backyard, doing things with my family + friends:

1) Going on the Slip 'n Slide and landing in wet pile of mud.
2) Having a water fight at my party + getting completely soaked
3) Picking apples with my mom from the crab apple tree and going back in the house with bags and bags of sweet apples
4) Watching my dad mow my 2 day old pine tree that I planted over
5) Watching my grandpa build my treehouse (groundhouse?) and being really excited to "move out and get a place of my own"
6) Taking ants and putting them in cups with water, leaves + graham crackers (Because they obviously need their food)
7) Making mud pies from well, mud and mixing in whatever looked nasty at that time.
8) Playing badminton with my dad and my cousin and getting three birdies on the roof (I think they're still there)
9) Playing soccer with my Mom + Dad and almost knocking over our neighbour's fence
10) Climbing over the fence with my friends and running to the nearest convenience store while my parents weren't looking.

Wow, I really miss all those times. It's funny how now that I'm older, I barely go outside and just hang out anymore. No more mud pies, soccer, ant colonies - just homework, computers, ipods and television.
Don't you miss childhood? I do.

Here are some pictures of my backyards just to show you what it's like to live like Eunice 6 years ago. biggrin Enjoy!

We see these flowers everytime we look out of our kitchen window. I don't know what they are, but they are so beautiful.

To show you how big it is: (Shut up about the lighting. I'm no photographer xD)

This was basically the source of the ants for me and my friend's ant habitats. There are always so many crawling on this thing. The leaves are huge too. I'm pretty sure one leaf is the size of my head. And I have a pretty big head.

The treehouse(?) that my grandpa built! Technically I don't even know what it's called. It's not a treehouse because it's not in a tree, but it's not a groundhouse either because it's technically not on the ground. So I'm just going to go ahead and keep calling it a treehouse. As you can see from the brown patch on it, the sign fell off during the winter and we never found it again. It used to say "Eunice & Timothy's Cabin" - Timothy being my cousin.

WAHHH I was devastated seeing this. This was the tree that my mom and I picked crab apples off of. I have no idea what happened to it this year, since it looks completely dead. I don't see apples sprouting anytime soon from this thing. Wah. hmph

This was exactly the place where my pine tree should've been, had my dad not mown over it a long time ago. Just think: it could be taller than the tree right beside it at this point. sad

My mom and her old fashioned ways. Since it was a nice and windy day outside, my mom decided to airdry some of my clothes. Very environmentally friendly : D

Also a supplier of many of the ants from my childhood. The patch of grass beside the shrub was exactly where the wet pile of mud I slid into was. I'm pretty sure I slid into the pine shrub itself a couple times too. cool

Anyways, that's it for my backyard escapade! I have to go back to doing some work, so I'll return comments later (:
Hope everyone is having a great summer!
Remember it. smile

Sincerely,
eunice.
